BS-1 Tishina
Happy to have participated in The Weapon Room challenge #28, hosted by Cohen Brawley, and to have secured first place. It was definitely a tough weapon to model with so little information available on it. I made it as accurate to its shapes and dimensions as I could, working from obscure Russian documents and 720p videos, and I've applied the great feedback I received from Cohen's stream of the challenge. I have learned a lot of new tricks both in Blender and Plasticity to apply on my next model. A Spetsnaz weapon of the Cold War, the BS-1 Tishina ("silence") is an underbarrel grenade launcher for the AK platform, not to be confused with its more modern 5.45mm variant, the BS-1M Kanareyka ("canary"). It is most commonly seen mounted on the AKMS - the underfolding-stock 7.62mm AK variant - paired with a PBS-1 suppressor. This version of the launcher fires a 7.62mm blank cartridge to drive a piston within the receiver, which in turn pushes out a 30mm pre-rifled HE-incendiary grenade capable of penetrating rocket hulls and light vehicles such as parked aircraft, leaving the target catastrophically damaged. The combination of a blank cartridge and a telescoping piston system means the launcher produces effectively no noise signature and no muzzle flash when fired.
